2014 has been cited as the year when the UK downturn is finally expected to be left behind, with forecasters almost competing to see who can be most bullish about the prospects for UK growth. Here, Kevin Hill Managing Director at Yale Door and Window Solutions shows why now is the time to innovate.

Leading companies across every industry recognise that innovation is critical to delivering consistent business results in all economic conditions.  Post recession, the speed of change and critical need for growth has reinforced this value.

To be competitive in today’s marketplace, organisations need to deliver new products, services and even business models to market quickly. They need to do this reliably and cost effectively, whilst maintaining a high level of quality to ensure consumer’s feedback remains positive.

Here at Yale Door and Window Solutions, we have always believed in the importance of innovation, setting the scene in 2013 with the integration of Paddock and Securistyle with Yale Door and Window Solutions to offer system companies, fabricators and installers a comprehensive choice of door and window hardware, backed by technical excellence and UK locations.

This year, Yale Door and Window Solutions has set an ambitious programme of new product development that will provide fabricators and installers with security devices and systems, that will deliver better margins and profits.

The first very exciting innovation is a revolutionary new window lock that has been exclusively designed to overcome some of the common problems with fitting window locks, such as keep positioning and vent / frame clash, to significantly reduce call backs to properties.

Product benefits include excellent and adjustable weather sealing as the lock seals the full length of the window and is accessible from inside the building. This is achieved via the keeps on the frame, resulting in no awkward and risky adjustment required on the vent.

Also launched this year is a new fully reversible hinge, purposely designed with a positive opening and turning action to prevent spin.  The operating lever is easy to use and the clever anti-blowback feature adds protection to fingers from being caught in the mechanism, making it ideal for high rise residential buildings where extra safety is essential.

The fully reversible hinge also contains fewer screws so it’s easier to line up and quicker to fabricate.  Installation is also easier because the hinge is set up in the factory with no extra adjustment needed.

What just these two product launches show is that Yale Door and Window Solutions is innovating for the benefit of fabricators and installers right from the product design to deliver on the exact customer requirements and added further benefits including simplified manufacture and installation.

There is also another area where Yale Door and Window Solutions is conscious to lead in innovation, in achieving latest standards, with further new products including a new multipoint lock to achieve PAS3621 standards and a cylinder only solution to achieve the coveted BSi Kitemark TS007 3* Standards.

To summarise, post-recession, the rules of engagement have changed. Businesses now not only need to think differently but also behave differently.

This is where Yale Door and Window Solutions can help, by providing innovative products and services for our fabricator and installer customers, whilst at the same time, providing ongoing resources and facilities to continue to drive the industry forward.
