National Home Security Month Is Back!


Having established success and gained growing support over the past few years, National Home Security Month will return again this October to highlight the importance of home security. Carly Baker, Marketing Manager at Yale Door and Window Solutions, explains why they are getting behind the effective national awareness campaign.

National Home Security Month (NHSM) is designed to highlight home security to homeowners across the UK, as well as driving demand for security products and installation services. Now in its third year, the initiative runs throughout October and features a series of hints and tips to highlight the ways homeowners can keep their homes, families and possessions safe as the nights draw in.


For Yale Door and Window Solutions, alongside our fabricator, installer and distributor partners, this is a chance to align ourselves with a campaign that is specifically designed to encourage homeowners to assess the security arrangements through their home, from cylinders and window locks through to advanced smart locks.


Generally, people tend to turn to security when something goes wrong, rather than preventing the issue beforehand. A key aim of the NHSM campaign is to change this habit, by pushing home security to the forefront of people’s minds at a time when statistics show that domestic burglaries increase by around 20% and continue at a high level throughout the winter months.  


NHSM is designed to grow the market by creating demand from consumers in the lead up to, and throughout October, through insightful statistics and helpful advice delivered via a dedicated microsite, social media channels and marketing activities.


Yale Door and Window Solutions will be supporting the campaign by showcasing how even changing the basics in home security can make a big difference.  For example, a new door fitted with a high security cylinder and handle combination presents a powerful proposition, and with the visual deterrent of the Yale branding it will make any opportunist burglar think twice.


The NHSM campaign features weekly themes, each focusing on a different aspect of home security. Fabricators, distributors and installers will be offered support to help them promote their services and provide consumers with details on how to ensure their door and window security meet required standards. 


The second of the weekly themes is particularly important to us, as it looks at protecting the entry points to a home and ensuring that door and window security is up to scratch; encouraging homeowners to, “Lock it up”!


Yale Door and Window Solutions is able to supply solutions for new doors and windows, from industry accredited multipoint locks, through to door cylinders, window hinges and door and window furniture. As a recognised and trusted consumer brand, Yale is seen as the expert in home security. When fabricators and installer are able to offer consumers a new window or door with “Yale security built in”, it gives them an extra card to play.


NHSM is a dedicated campaign that has been designed to help the industry as a whole to engage with customers, and ultimately increase sales at a key time for home security.
